Precision Starts at the Tip

Tungsten electrodes are a key component in TIG welding, providing the arc stability and temperature resistance needed for high-quality, precise welds. Each type of tungsten is alloyed for specific welding applications, with colour-coded tips for easy identification. The right electrode choice can enhance arc start performance, reduce contamination, and extend electrode life.

Whether you're welding aluminium on AC or stainless steel on DC, our range of tungsten electrodes meets a wide variety of needs:

Pure Tungsten – Green Tip

Ideal for AC welding of aluminium and magnesium. Offers a stable arc with a balled tip, but lower current capacity and shorter lifespan compared to alloyed options.

2% Thoriated – Red Tip

Excellent arc starting and stability for DC welding. Common for mild steel and stainless steel. Contains low-level radioactive thorium requires care in handling and grinding.

2% Ceriated – Grey Tip

A versatile electrode with easy arc starts, especially at low amperage. Suitable for both AC and DC welding and known for stable performance and low electrode erosion.

1% Lanthanated – Black Tip

Non-radioactive alternative to thoriated tungsten. Good for AC and DC welding with strong arc starts, low erosion rates, and long tip life. Ideal for general-purpose welding.

2% Lanthanated – Blue Tip

Offers improved arc stability and higher current capacity. Excellent all-round performance on AC and DC. Especially suitable for stainless steel and thin sheet work.

1.5% Lanthanated – Gold Tip

Balanced conductivity and wear resistance. Matches the performance of 2% thoriated tungsten in many DC applications without the radioactivity. Reliable for both AC and DC welding.

Zirconiated – White Tip

Designed for AC welding with exceptional arc stability and minimal tungsten spitting. Ideal when weld purity is critical, such as in aluminium TIG welding.

E3® – Purple Tip

Advanced, non-radioactive alternative with excellent arc starts, low burn-off, and universal usability on both AC and DC. Suitable for a wide range of materials and ideal for modern inverter machines.
